The advent of another new James Bond movie has once again prompted discussion of James Bond’s watch choices.

Here, of course, it’s an ongoing, exclusive focus for original research, analysis, and coverage.

And, since I’ve already produced and shared the definitive list of James Bond watches, that’s not news.

The real story is why?

Why any interest at all in James Bond watches?

How did it come about?

And what makes it such a wildly profitable marketing investment for any watchmaker that contracts to appear through on-screen product placements and for rights to produce licensed commemoratives?

When the National Associaton of Watch & Clock Collectors approached me early last summer to write a feature article on James Bond wriswatches, that’s where our conversation started. Watch & Clock Bulletin editor Therese Umerlik, already an unapologetic fan of Daniel Craig as Agent 007, agreed that we needed our own “origin story.”
