Most current model from all confirmed James Bond watch brands: In a single shot

Confession: I actually completed work on this image around the same time as the James Bond watch group photo referenced here almost 2 months ago.

And it’s my favorite of the pair.

But I like to mix it up a bit. And strive for balance (information permitting) in discussing all known James Bond watch brands — each of which has its own passionate following.

At the same time, 10 days ago it was starting to look like this one would be out-of-date by the time I’d released it. That was when one Omega watch Authorized Dealers posted extensive details on what it said would be “the” Skyfall James Bond watch. That “scoop” was subsequently retracted.

Thus these remain, still, the most current models from among each of the known James Bond watch makers.

Starting with the back row, left:

  • Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean, Quantum of Solace (2008)
  • Seiko quartz Chronograph, A View to a Kill (1985)
  • Hamilton Pulsar P2, Live and Let Die (1973)
  • Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date, Carte Blanche (2011)
  • Breitling for continue reading…

One of the nice things about having an expanded collection of James Bond watches is that they can be presented together in combinations.

Uncommon, to say the least.

In this case, the James Bond Watch Photos release for today features the current confirmed model from among each of the known James Bond watch brands.

Additionally— all watches are synchronized and running. (Yes, including the Hamilton Pulsar LED.) In some of the higher-resolution options, you’ll note differences in second-hand movement, quartz versus mechanical.

Starting at the top-left, then:

  • A Hamilton Pulsar model, identical to that worn by Roger Moore as James Bond in Live and Let Die (1973).
  • A Breitling Chronograph, as specified (and, in the case of this particular wristwatch, actually worn) by Jeffery Deaver for Carte Blanche (2011).
  • A Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date, also specified by Jeffery Deaver for James Bond in Carte Blanche.
  • An Omega Planet Ocean — which continue reading…
Heuer 980-series Night Dive watch ad, placed just a few years before it would become a James Bond watch in "The Living Daylights"

Heuer 980-series Night Dive watch ad, placed just a few years before it would become a James Bond watch in "The Living Daylights"

This advertisement is from the August 1983 issue of Skin Diver magazine.

Among watch models featured, we see the reference 980.031 PVD Night Diver from what was then the Heuer Time & Electronics Corporation.

Actor Timothy Dalton wore that model as James Bond in the Eon Productions 007 movie, The Living Daylights, 1987.

Technical specifications include details on the phosphorescent glow-dial (after just 10 seconds of exposure to light, the entire dial was said to glow for an average of 10 minutes).

Beyond that, tritium markers on the hands markers at 12, 6, and 9 o’clock positions glowed “even without previous activation.”

A total of 6 color and size variations are shown here, beyond which, alternatives were “available with non-phosphorescent dials.”

In addition to providing historical information on reference numbers and certain specifications, advertisements such as this make great collector pieces in their own rights. I know some people who focus on individual watches, but go deep with them — building out what they own to include original packaging, instructions, ads such as this, and collateral material.

Often at nicely accessible prices.
