
Limited to 10,007 pieces, the 40th Anniversary James Bond watch, an Omega Seamaster 2537.80, had an MSRP of $2,195.00 in 2002
Originally, there was just one.
That is to say, one model.
With all the buzz surrounding recent “limited” James Bond watches, I thought a bit of perspective on the Mark I might be in order.
In 2002, with 4 Eon Productions James Bond movies in the can that featured Omega Seamaster models on the wrist of actor Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, a special edition of the chronometer that’d appeared in the last 3 was released.
Limited to just 10,007 pieces, the Omega reference 2537.80 Seamaster was produced with a few unique “007″ attributes to otherwise modestly differentiate it from the 2531.80 model chosen for Mr Brosnan in Die Another Day.
The MSRP on that watch was $2,195.00, and, according to Laurent Bouzereau in his book The Art of Bond, it sold out in just 4 days.
Lest anyone lament having missed out at the time, at least one seller has one listed for sale today, asking price $2,750 on eBay. That’s an increase of 25% in value over 10 ten years.
