Breitling Top Time chronograph: The James Bond watch choice for Sean Connery in "Thunderball"

Breitling Top Time chronograph: The James Bond watch choice for Sean Connery in "Thunderball"

Admittedly, the Breitling Top Time has been woefully under-covered in my James Bond watch efforts.

Problem is, the production model just doesn’t make the same impression as the Q-modified (prop) version worn by Sean Connery as James Bond in Thunderball.

And I’m not interested in following suit with the hack-about wannabe prop-makers on fanboy-forums who repeatedly fail at attempts to replicate what the master craftsmen at Eon Productions fabricated in the 1960s by way of convincing faux Geiger-counter housing.

Don’t get me wrong: The Breitling Top Time is a fabulous watch, a great chronometer. And the first to depart from Rolex model selections for the movie-Bond.

In looking for middle ground, I created this image. Focusing on the continue reading…

Confession: I actually completed work on this image around the same time as the James Bond watch group photo referenced here almost 2 months ago.

And it’s my favorite of the pair.

But I like to mix it up a bit. And strive for balance (information permitting) in discussing all known James Bond watch brands — each of which has its own passionate following.

At the same time, 10 days ago it was starting to look like this one would be out-of-date by the time I’d released it. That was when one Omega watch Authorized Dealers posted extensive details on what it said would be “the” Skyfall James Bond watch. That “scoop” was subsequently retracted.

Thus these remain, still, the most current models from among each of the known James Bond watch makers.

Starting with the back row, left:

  • Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean, Quantum of Solace (2008)
  • Seiko quartz Chronograph, A View to a Kill (1985)
  • Hamilton Pulsar P2, Live and Let Die (1973)
  • Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date, Carte Blanche (2011)
  • Breitling for continue reading…

Yeah, I know— It’s been too long.

After over year since my last jamesbondwatches YouTube Channel update, we’ve come up with a basic format with which I’m generally satisfied in starting to release James Bond watch videos on a more regular basis.

All will feature running wristwatches and exclusive footage.

The latest entry, here, is of the James Bond watch designated by author Jeffery Deaver for the last chapters of his novel, Carte Blanche. As part of 007′s cover there, James Bond wears a Breitling for Bentley model on stainless steel bracelet. It’s a “huge” wristwatch, Mr Deaver wrote.

This video puts those descriptions in fuller context.

For example, I show it in comparison to the familiar Omega Seamaster chronometer associated with Pierce Brosnan’s tenure as James Bond in the Eon Productions movies; and compared to the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date model with which Jeffery Deaver had his own James Bond start out in Carte Blanche.

Of additional interest to collectors, this video provides some views of original packaging and paperwork that comes along with the Breitling for Bentley Motors T Speed watch when purchased new. Including a Chronometer Certificate.

Also note: The watch featured in this video is the exact watch worn by Jeffery Deaver at the last stop on his US book tour promoting Carte Blanche for publisher Simon & Schuster. That was a McIntyre Books in North Carolina.

Subsequently, this same watch continue reading…
