There’s absolutely no reason to buy a fake, replica, homage, or knock-off James Bond watch. Period.
With the growing number of pedigreed James Bond watch brands known to have appeared in official movies and books, neither price nor performance need be compromised.
For example, the watch shown here is one of two TAG Heuer 1000 Professional diver’s available for auction on eBay. Based on sales histories from the 2011 James Bond Watches Price Guide, this 980.013 is likely to sell for between $250 and $300 when the final hammer comes down.
Actor Timothy Dalton wore a model similar to this as James Bond in the 1987 Eon Productions 007 film, The Living Daylights.
Conversely, the word I’ve seen most frequently used on the less reputable James Bond fan forums is “homage.” As in “homage Sean Connery” or “homage Goldfinger” watches. The hook is to buy “because the real thing is too expansive,” and the claim is that the forum post is being provided, I guess, as some sort of perverted good-will offering to fellow fans.
