Bullet-proof: Ian Fleming to Eon Productions

Yeah, I know— It’s been too long.

After over year since my last jamesbondwatches YouTube Channel update, we’ve come up with a basic format with which I’m generally satisfied in starting to release James Bond watch videos on a more regular basis.

All will feature running wristwatches and exclusive footage.

The latest entry, here, is of the James Bond watch designated by author Jeffery Deaver for the last chapters of his novel, Carte Blanche. As part of 007′s cover there, James Bond wears a Breitling for Bentley model on stainless steel bracelet. It’s a “huge” wristwatch, Mr Deaver wrote.

This video puts those descriptions in fuller context.

For example, I show it in comparison to the familiar Omega Seamaster chronometer associated with Pierce Brosnan’s tenure as James Bond in the Eon Productions movies; and compared to the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date model with which Jeffery Deaver had his own James Bond start out in Carte Blanche.

Of additional interest to collectors, this video provides some views of original packaging and paperwork that comes along with the Breitling for Bentley Motors T Speed watch when purchased new. Including a Chronometer Certificate.

Also note: The watch featured in this video is the exact watch worn by Jeffery Deaver at the last stop on his US book tour promoting Carte Blanche for publisher Simon & Schuster. That was a McIntyre Books in North Carolina.

Happy New Year!

For those of you not following my James Bond Watch Photos site, Breitling for Bentley is its first post for 2012.

Author Jeffery Deaver specified the model A2536513 / C781 Breitling for Bentley Motors T Speed wristwatch for James Bond as part of the South Africa mission cover in Carte Blanche.

The context for this exclusive James Bond watch image is in keeping with the recycling plot line. Banker’s Box for compliance-related record-keeping, with destroy-date specified, along with paper shreds, provide the backdrop.

James Bond memorobilia collectors will be additionally interested in the provenance of this particular wristwatch.

The piece shown here is the exact same physical Breitling for Bentley chronograph that Jeffery Deaver himself wore on June 29, 2010, at his last US book tour stop to promote Carte Blanche. That connection was through special arrangement continue reading…

Readers and collectors clearly benefit from a definitive Carte Blanche James Bond Breitling watch identification; so who really has an interest in keeping it a mystery?

“What difference would it have made if Jeffery Deaver had not gone on to specify an exact model number for the James Bond Breitling watch in Carte Blanche?”

It’s an important question to discuss. Anyone who values a wristwatch for more than merely telling the time has a vested interest in this answer, of course.

And let’s not kid ourselves: James Bond watch affiliations are proven to make a substantial difference in retail and residual prices.

For example, an October 2008 special report by WatchTime magazine noted that “in 1996 Omega sold 10 times more Seamaster Professional Divers” than the year prior. Omega directly attributed this to product placement that had put that model on the wrist of actor Pierce Brosnan in the 1995 Eon Productions 007 film, GoldenEye.

Vintage-wise, disciplined research, such as my own original-source interviews that were first to definitively identify correct model numbers for historic James Bond Rolex and Seiko watches, has helped collectors target acquisitions with true “Double O” standing in terms of rationalizing price premiums.

Admittedly, I’ve lost a few followers by breaking this news. Or, rather should I say, gained a couple of stalkers.

They’re angry because continue reading…
