Swatch James Bond watches leather briefcase, 2002 Fall/Winter collection

This week, we’re taking a look at a very nice range of licensed James Bond watches currently available on eBay.

As before, an opening disclaimer:

These references are presented as-is, where-is.

I am not authenticating anything that’s being offered, not vouching for sellers, and not suggesting current or ultimate sales prices reflect future value.

Fossil Deluxe Limited Edition 007 watch

Although all packaging and pieces are included with this auction, several aspects of it are in a bit rougher shape than we’d like to see for a Fossil-Bond collectible. See item number 230649488987 on eBay.

Gilbert James Bond Spy Watch

Item number 120824485534 is the wristwatch version offered by Gilbert that was without embossed logo.

Here with Breitling watches we have the third installment in an unfolding series that looks at the value of product placement in terms of leveraging earned media through Internet coverage.

Breitling resurfaced as a James Bond watch earlier this year with publication of the novel Carte Blanche. There, author Jeffery Deaver specified a Breitling for Bentley model as part of Agent 007′s cover in Africa.

But long-time fans will recall that the first Breitling was a Top Time model worn by Sean Connery as James Bond in Thunderball. I’ve also seen entreats to declare the Breitling Chronomat Evolution a “James Bond watch,” citing photos of actor Roger Moore — years after his most recent appearance in A View to a Kill — wearing what appears to be his own personal selection from the Breitling line.

In creating the listing below of top 30 “Breitling Ambassadors,” then, I looked more to who collectors and followers of the make consider as celebrity endorsements. With the addition of my own James Bond ties as well, of course.

Christie's auction, Sale 1380 / Lot 332: Rolex Submariner 6538 wristwatch

How closely is this Rolex 6538 Submariner tied to the Eon Productions 007 film "Thunderball" and the James Bond character?

When one runs the leading sites for James Bond watch information, one hears many stories.

Trouble is, as I pointed out in my Blog entry last Thursday, substantiating the claims attendant thereto.

But this one’s a little different in that Christie’s had included in a Lot description for auction today background on a Rolex 6538 Submariner dated to 1959 (consistent with case number associations provided by Martin Skeet and Nick Urul in Vintage Rolex Sports Models) — with ties to the Eon Productions film Thunderball, starring Sean Connery.

Keep in mind as you read this that Rolex expert-collector Guido Mondani (and co-author of Rolex Submariner Story) further notes that the Submariner 6538 reference was last produced in 1959.
