That’s right: Planet Ocean
Here’s the “October surprise” alluded to in my Post yesterday.
I’m now prepared to confirm that Omega SA is producing a second Limited Edition watch in conjunction with its James Bond 007 Casino Royale product placement relationship.
This is the Omega watch model number 2907.50.91 (a/k/a model number 29075091) Planet Ocean Casino Royale Limited Edition (“LE”).
Not to be confused with the Omega watch model number 2226.80 Seamaster Limited Edition officially announced on May 17.
Now, I must tell you: Omega SA has not yet said a word about the timepiece I’m describing here. Nor, for that matter, any other Planet Ocean model to be associated with James Bond.
But I felt that time was of the essence for getting these details into the hands of collectors who may want to get in touch with their Authorized Dealers (“ADs”) earlier rather than later. After all, who wants to wait until the 2709.50.91 shows up on page #1 of a Google Search before he/she starts shopping?
Even the bigger ADs don’t appear to have it in their “systems” yet; but when I’ve politely asked the customer service representatives and sales people to inquire further, most are able to find what we’re looking for within the day.
Unlike the 2006 James Bond 007 Seamaster LE, which was limited to 10,007 pieces (following precedent set with its 2537.80, released in 2002 to coincide with Die Another Day), the new Planet Ocean 2907.50.91 will be limited to just 5,007 pieces. Of those, only 10% will be allocated to the United States market. MSRP is reportedly between $3,000 and $4,000 U.S. And, true to the film, this LE wristwatch comes on a rubber strap.
The 2907.50.91 is being referred to as “the Casino Royale watch.” Perhaps this is to avoid confusion with the 2226.80 Seamaster, which is being referred to as “the James Bond watch.”
